American White Pelican

American White Pelicans are natural synchronized swimmers.  The flock swims in unison alternately plunging their bills into the water and raising them in the air.  They move forward corralling fish toward the shallow shoreline so the fish are easier to catch for dinner.  Their 9 foot wingspan is necessary to lift them in the air because they are one of the largest North American birds.  Once airborne, they continue their synchronicity as they turn together on air currents creating a harmonious aerial display.
